¿What is Starlix?

Starlix is an oral type 2 diabetes medication you take whenever you eat to control mealtime spikes in your blood sugar. Taking Starlix alone or in addition to either your metformin or TZD, prescribed by your doctor, can help you reach your blood sugar goal - an HbA1c under 7% (or the goal your doctor has set for you). Sometimes, diet and exercise aren´t enough. You watch what you eat, stay physically active and take the diabetes medication prescribed by your doctor but your blood sugar may still be too high. That´s when it´s time for Starlix.

¿What is the most important information I should know about Starlix?

Always remember that Starlix is an aid to, not a substitute for, good diet and exercise. Failure to follow a sound diet and exercise plan can lead to serious complications, such as dangerously high or low blood sugar levels. Remember, too, that Starlix is not an oral form of insulin, and cannot be used in place of insulin shots.

¿What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking Starlix?

Because certain other medicines may affect the effectiveness of Starlix, tell your doctor or health care provider about the medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines. These drugs include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Motrin and Advil , and salicylates, such as aspirin. Tell your health care provider if you:
* currently are taking other medicines for diabetes, including glyburide (Diabeta, Micronase, Glynase, Glucovance) or metformin (Glucophage, Glucovance)
* currently have liver problems or have a history of liver problems
* are trying to become pregnant, are already pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

¿How should I take Starlix?

* For Starlix to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. The drug will not work if you stop taking it.

¿What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose before a meal, skip that dose. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose with the next scheduled meal as directed. Do not take double or extra doses.

¿What happens if I overdose?

An overdose of Starlix can cause low blood sugar. (For symptoms, see "What side effects may occur?") Mild hypoglycemia can usually be corrected by eating sugar or a sugar-based product. If your symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention immediately.

¿What should I avoid while taking Starlix?
